Starting our storyboard

On today's lesson we've started creating our storyboard .

Ollie Allgrove - Executive producer

Ollie Allgrove and Jeroen Jaspaert .
Ollie Allgrove is on the left and the director Jeroen Jaspaert is on the right .
Here are some screenshots from their website and also a link ti it . http://www.themill.com/

This is a really good quotation that I have found on their website and during the talk he mentioned that that's how they call themselves around the world .

Ollie told us today that their company produces lots of different films , videos, and adverts . Their video and films are different because of the style , budget , which plays a really important role and many other aspects . He said that in general, their job is really competitive especially when they are pitching their ideas . He also gave us some information on how many people are roughly working in their company and there are 4000 people in total , 2500 are artists who create animations and everything .

He also said that even though their company doesn't like to talk about it but they won an oscar which really shows how good and professional their company is .

They don't have any boundaries and they can create almost everything . That's probably why he said that "Impossible possible - creating everything " . So , he just wanted o say that you can do everything if you really want something .

He knew that we are working on our music videos now and he gave us some tips which I think we already new , but they are still useful

1). It is all starts with how you get your ideas across
2). make a promo
3). What's the big idea - whether you feel your idea will make people believe in it
4). Treatment is a really important part of this process , as it has to have a voice trying to communicate with an artist if you find it hard to write in words you can use pictures to explain your ideas
5). Storyboard is a very useful thing if you are struggling to get something across for some people , it might be easier to express it in this way

Another important rule which he has mentioned is that all the preparations should be before hand , and you can't just decide on the shooting day which Tshirt you want or something like that .

Timeline

This is the first version of our timeline and here are some pictures of my group of how we were creating it .

What is a storyboard for ?

When we are making a video , planning is an extremely important part of the whole process . One of the most important stages of planning is creating a storyboard . A storyboard is a graphic representation of how your video will unfold , shot by shot . It's made up of squares with illustrations or pictures representing each shot , with notes about what is going on in the scene and what's being said in the script during that shot . Storyboard is some sort of a comic book version of our script .

A storyboard is the same thing and has the same function in the film as an outline does in written projects . The storyboard really helps the director to visualize the flow of camera shots and have a clear idea and understanding of what he wants to appear on the screen . We don't need to draw very detailed pictures , it can just be a rough one . Looking at the storyboard and having all the shots that are going to be filmed on one paper it is easier to see whether the director's ideas are gong to work on the screen and whether they are laid out correctly and how it visually looks . Storyboard really helps to have a visual understanding of the sequence of shots , movement of actors , lighting , etc. It is not always necessary for the director who is filming a proper film to draw every single shot , but for us , as we are only creating a 3 minutes music video is necessary to cover all the shots in the storyboard .

How to do a rough storyboard
1). Divide the story into its logical , nonlinear parts
2). Decide what piece of the story works best in the video
3). Decide what piece of the story work best in still photo
4). What part of the story works best in the graphic
5). Does the story need a map ?
6). What part of the story belongs in the text

Pitching to Luke

Today we were pitching to Luke about our idea for the music video . He gave us some really useful feedbacks and now we know how we need to move further and what we need to do . He said that he doesnt really like our idea about Alice in wonderland and that we need to think about something different . So now me and my group will start working on some new ideas and we should come up with something else as soon as possible . Talking about the song that we have chosen , he said that it it absolutaly fine and we can leave it .

Lisztomania

One of our ideas for a chosen song is a son called ‘Lisztomania’ by a French and called Phoenix . This song was originally released in 2009 but people still think that its a very popular song , even though its quite indie , so not realy for everyone might listen to it . I find really interesting how the band are using this as an example of the ultimate fame and they discuss the issues through their lyrics on how fame can grow sofast but also fade quickly the chorus discusses how you have to learn to deal with both. I really enjoy the whole reason behind the song and also the music itself as it tackles the issues of popularity in the music industry and how one minute you go from fame and then in some cases lose it in seconds.

Shots of Franz Liszts grave appear and other bands and artists that have collapsed. Then it cuts to Phoenix singing in comparison to the other artists. Overall this music video supports the ideas behind the song and it works really well . This is one of our group ideas .

Music videos talk

Last Friday we had a talk on how music video is created . Two ladies who came to speak to us showed us three videos which they have created . they were completely different and were filmed in different styles . They told us how that a lot of directors have different styles and they all want their videos to be very unique and as interesting as only possible . Before they come to an agreement on one idea they have a chat and only after that they can decide which idea to do . Some artists who talk to them to find out what they might want to see in the outcome , know what they want to do and can straight away see a clear idea of the future music video . Those who doesn't know , they just let the directors to do what they only want to . They also told us that there is always going to be to sections of people . Those who really like the idea and those who think that the idea is rubbish . before artists start doing anything they have to write a brief and send it to 5-10 directors , so that they can have an idea of what might be a possible outcome . If it is a new artist who is working on the project , he/she can put some imagery in it for a better presentation and for a more clear understanding of what they want to do . They also showed us some printed sheets with the pictures from the video . It looked like an initial ideas page , as mostly there were just bullet points with the description to the pictures . I found really interesting how different those videos were and I also saw a clear line and a clear difference between them in terms of the budget which was put into a certain video . They also gave us some advice according filming our own school music video and they said that before the shooting day you should have everything ready . You should have your story board and everything that you might only need to , because if something goes wrong , you have your whole music video written step by step and you can easily fix something up . So , I will take their advice into the account and will follow their suggestions when preparing for my own music video , as i want it to be perfect .

https://www.bpi.co.uk/home/bpi-2015-music-market-report.aspx Here is a web site from where I found all the information and interesting facts about the British Music Industry .

“Yet again it’s UK artists who are driving this growth and inspiring the fans – at home and across the planet – with their award-winning song-writing and performances, whether it’s global icons such as Adele, Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and One Direction, or recent British breakthroughs and newcomers like Jess Glynne, Little Mix and James Bay.”

1). UK record label investment in British & international music talent helps UK recorded music sector to achieve another £1 billion-plus year and global success – and fans to enjoy music in more ways than ever before.

2). 26.8 billion audio streams represent over a fifth (22 per cent) of music consumed in UK – although if streaming through music video sites were to be added, the combined total for streams would top the 50 billion mark (53.7 billion).

3). Adele’s 25 sells 2.5 million copies in UK (and 15 million worldwide) in just six weeks to become 2015’s fastest & biggest seller globally – 11th year in a row best-selling artist album in UK has come from British act which is a huge record for the femail singers .

4). Now 92 is year’s biggest-selling compilation as domination of Official Compilations Charts top-10 by Now range is broken only by Fifty Shades of Grey soundtrack and Ministry of Sound’s The Annual 2016.

Overall , this web site helped me to find more information about the British music industry .

My AS journey

- The beginning of my AS year was not an easy one for me and I wasn't sure what I was doing but then it was much better further the year in terms of understanding the program
-I didnt do as well as I wanted in my end of year exam , but hopefully I can improve it this year
-The most interesting bit for me during the whole year was filming the thriller

My first idea for the music video

For my second music video I have chosen a song called "A thousand years" by Christina Perri .

Christina Perri was born August 19 , 1986 . She is an American singer and songwriter from Bucks Country , Pennsylvania . Her first debut single "Jar of hearts" charted after it was featured on the Fox television show which is called "So you think you can dance" in 2010 . The single went on sell over 3 million copies in the United States and was a hit around the world . In the UK it reached number 3 on the charts and spent over three months in the UK top 40 . After 'Jar of hearts" she began to gather a large amount of attention . her debut album "Lovestrong" was released on May 10 , 2011 . In 2012 she wrote and recorded "A thousand years which is a song that I have chosen . She recorded it for the film "The twilight Saga : Breaking down - part 2" (2011) and it appears on the accompanying soundtrack . The song went on to sell over 4 million copies in the United States .

Here is some more information about her :

Her video clip is combined with her own singing in candles and also there are shots from the Twilight as mainly she recorded this song for the film .
Here are the lyrics :

Thinking about my own video clip which I want to make for this song , I thought that making something really romantic will be quite good . So , I thought that my video clip can be a short story about someone's relationship . I thought that maybe my narrative can be something like a boy and a girl approximately 10 to 12 years old are in the forest . They are running around the trees , talking to each other and just having fun . The most vital thing to show the audience is that how they then fall in love with each other . This can be the first minute and a half . Then I want to show how after 5 years they are still together and still running in the forest like they did before .
So , the whole clip will be about someone's love story .
I was also thinking that if not shooting it in the forest , I can shoot it in the studio , creating a white background and adding lots of lighting to create a very romantic atmosphere . I was inspired by making a love story clip by the video clip "Youth" which was made by A2's last year . I dont want to copy them , but I want to make something similar .

Here are some pictures that might help the audience to understand my idea better .
