Our thriller is about a boy who is entering the house through the window and searching for something that he knows has been hidden somewhere . He is looking through all the books on the shells when he starts hearing someones foot steps and then hides behind the wall . The owner of the house enters the room and takes a book with title ‘’Hidden’’ , which is the one where the memory stick was hidden . The man opens a book and when he finds a memory stick in there , he feels satisfied . that’s basically a short summary of our thriller .
( On this screenshot for example we can see their emotions and how confident the man feels and how scared the boy is )
Now talking about the main representations that we can see in a thriller , we are looking at two main ones , which are age and gender . The age between our main characters is significantly different . The man is in his 60th and the boy is a teenager .
Looking at mise-en-scene , we are talking about the room in which the thriler was fillmed . We had to make it look like someones house , even though it went very well , it probably wasn’t the best decision to film in the library , but we tried our best to make it look like someone’s house and I think that it worked quite well for us . It looks like the person who owns the house is quite a rich person as starting from the windows through which the boy was entering the house , we are noticing the curtains that look very rich and also the table in the middle . (obviously we know that the table is for the student to do their prep) but in our thriller this table is a dining table . Looking at the cloths of the main characters , we can clearly differenciate the level of their wealth . Talking about the boy we are noticing that he wears black T-shirt , black trousers and black trainers . When we look at him we start comparing him to all the teenage boys . Stereotypically , boys of his age usually wear something comfortable and usually they wear jeans and quite simple T-shirts . Looking at the second main character , he wears a suit with a tie which looks quite expensive and smart . Comparing two of them , we might think that the men ( who is the owner of the house ) may be a businessman or something like that .
Also , looking at the expressions of the characters , we are notising that the man is confident in himself and knows what he is doing . Looking at the boy we can see that he is scared that someone can catch him and I understand that the audience , when watching our thriller might either think that the boy is trying to steel something just because he does it every time , doesn’t have enough money ( maybe his parents don’t give him enough money or something like that ) . The other half of the audience might look at it differently and say that the owner of the house has one something wrong ( for example he could have killed someone and has photographs or something relevant to this on the memory stic which he hides inside the book ) and this boy wants to show people what he has done . Personally I think that our main character is a good boy and I think even though he wears all black ( which can suggest that black is something negative ) it is just his preferences . Talking about the lighting , we filmed it in the morning and we did’t need to use any specific and proffecional lighting as the natural light worked really well for us . As i mentioned earlier , we had to make the school library look like someone’s house , we had to move some of the things from there and put the relevant books ( which people in the evenings can usually be reading for pleasure ) .
The next section of question 2 is camera angles . We used many different ones to make out film look more interesting so that the audience can not just look at someone’s back all the time or at someones fase (close up ) . Listing all the shots that we have used I can name some of the most important ones . For example we have used an establishing shot , lots of close ups ( to show the emotions of the person ) , and old shot ( whee we wanted to show that the main character is in a rush , that he is nervous while searching for something ) and this also builds up tension and make the audience want to follow the character and find out what can happend next . Also , all the shots at the beginning that we have to film for the titles , we made so that it looks good but so the audience can be able to read the names . Another important thing to mention is that the movement of the camera has to be relevant and has to move when it has to move . (These two screenshots shows the wealth of the house and we can also see that its not a modern house , which gives some sourt of a power )
I can’t really say much about edititng because we have done some transactions so that it flows throughout the whole film . Pace also changes all the time which suggests the emotions of the characters , as when the pace is fast , he is nervous or something like that , or when for example the pace is slow , he is not in a hurry and doing something that takes lots of time .
The only sound that we have added is some sourt of music that builds up a tension and make the audience feel like something is going to happend now . The other sound that we have added is a heart beating of the boy ( so that the audience can go through the whole journey of him together ) . Also the heart beating is some sort of stereotype , as when the person is scared or nervous his heart starts beating faster and faster ) . So that the audience will have a feeling like the boy is either scared and is afraid that the owner of the house is about to come or the other option might be that that he is nervous .
