An animatic storyboard

An animatic storyboard is the filmed version of the storyboards drawings . The shots are timed to what the actual shots will supposedly look like . This helps highlight any problems . An animatic is the best visual way to show the flow of the narrative . Unlike storyboards it is actual filmed footage , so is more visually accurate than the storyboard .

An animatic storyboard has been really useful for our group as it gives a better idea of how the scene will look and feel with motion and timing . It also gives a better indication of the narrative than the storyboard because of its film footage . It also highlights the issues with editing , camera angles and timing problems that might have not been obvious at the first time .

Looking at our animatic storyboard I am not sure that we have enough shots , but some of the shots can just be similar , when for example the person is turning or doing any other movement . We are now planning to stick with this timeline and follow the shots that we have created .

How to build a padded room

For one of our rooms we will need to build a padded room , so here is a link to the website which explains how to do it . During our preparations, we will need to buy all the materials , so that we can start building it . We really want it to be as professionally build as possible , so we will need to spend a lot of time thinking carefully how to build it .

Storyboard

What is a storyboard and why do we need it before filming something ? 
A storyboard is a graphic representation of how your video will unfold , shot by shot . The storyboard is made up of a number of squares with illustrations or pictures representing each shot , with notes about what's going on in the scene and what's being said in the script during that shot . This is some kind of a comic book  version of our script . 

Talking about why we need a storyboard is because visually it makes it much easier for us to share and explain the vision for the video with others . It is also easier when you are trying to explain something to the other person and they just can't see you vision . When you have a storyboard , you can show exactly how your video is going to be mapped out and what it will look like .
So here we have created a storyboard for our music video .

     

Meeting with the set designers

Today we were pitching to Luke and to ladies who came to help us with the set design of our 3 different sections for the room . We told them our ideas and explained how we want everything to be in our music video . We said that we want some of our shots to be in the padded room with a person hanging from the ceiling in a straight jacket . The second room we want to include a table and two chairs for the shots when a boy and a girl are talking to each other or when they are doing other crazy things . The third room we want to be made out of bricks and we want to put there a table with a computer and this will be for the shots when this girl is looking at the CCTV cameras .

On the first picture , there is a drawing of a padded room and a hanging man . Luke said that it's going to be quite difficult to hang a student , as it is dangerous in terms of health and safety , so we will need to think about someone else , maybe it can be a teacher .

This picture looks more or less 3D and it's just to show how the padded room will look without a person in it . When talking to Luke he said that he might have a dentist chair , so we thought that we might change the idea slightly to make it more interesting and instead of hanging someone (if we are not allowed ) we can just put a dentist chair in the padded room and pay around with it . It will be more creepy and we thought that it might even be more interesting .

The second room is a CCTV room which will be mainly for a girl who will be looking at the cameras  which are going to be forwarded towards the person in the padded room . In this room, we want to use a MAC computer . The position of the table might also change . It can either be placed in the middle or next to the wall .

The third room is the interrogation room . This is the room in which a boy and a girl will meet . It will just be a simple room with a table and two chairs . We also need a simple light bulb hanging from the ceiling .

Another idea from Luke was to shot everything in the padded room . We now need to think about that and decide whether we want to do so or not .
